Wedding dresses on a rail at Tily's

Questions? We’ve Got You!

How much are your bridal dresses?

Our bridal collections currently start at around £1500 and extend up to approx £3800, with the average dress price sitting around £2000.

We know weddings can get spenny to put it lightly so at Tilly’s we offer a flexible payment plan.  It’s not quite klarna but you can pay 50% when you order your dress and the other 50% when it’s ready to be shipped.

Can i bring guests to my appointment?

The most important thing to remember is that you only bring your biggest cheerleaders with you. Those people who lift you up and make you feel utterly fabulous. If you can’t say ‘Yes!’ without your mum / best friend / primary school teacher by your side, then make sure they are on your guest list.

That said, realistically we can only fit in around 5 guests (including the bride), in each of our private suites but, we’ll always try to accommodate as many of your tribe as you need… just let us know in advance if you can.

What should I bring to a wedding dress appointment?

Keep it simple, bring yourself, your wedding dress, Pinterest board, and an open mind!

We recommend bringing a strapless bra, any shapewear and the shoes (or a pair of similar height) that you’re planning to wear on your wedding day, so you can get a better idea of how your dress will look and feel.

If there’s a special or sentimental piece of jewellery that you know you want to wear on your wedding day, bring that along too. It can be good to see how it looks with the different dresses and help you picture your whole bridal look.

Other than that, you don’t need to bring much at all. We’ve got the wedding dresses, you just need to bring you!

How long does a typical wedding dress appointment last?

At Tilly’s our bridal appointment times range from 1.5 hours to 2 hours. Plenty of time to try different styles, take in the moment and flounce around if you fancy it!

How early should I schedule my first wedding dress appointment before the wedding?

Ideally, you should book your first wedding appointment 9-12 months before the big day.

For a full ideal wedding dress shopping timeline check out our when to go wedding dress shopping guide. This timeline will make sure you have plenty of time to be as picky as you like and still have time for alterations.

What questions should I ask my bridal consultant during a wedding dress appointment?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions at your bridal appointment, your stylist is there to help!

Tilly’s bridal boutique in leamington spa is a judgement free zone, no question is silly… ask away bridey!

A few important things to ask are:

  • What is the total cost of my wedding dress?

Make sure you understand the full price, including any shipping, taxes or additional costs, so there are no surprises later.

  • When do I need to order my dress?

Ask about the expected delivery timeline and make sure you’re ordering in plenty of time before your wedding. If your wedding is coming up quickly, ask whether a rush order is available and if there’s an additional fee.

  • How do alterations work?

Find out whether the boutique offers in-house alterations or has recommended seamstresses they regularly work with. It’s also worth asking when alterations should be booked.

  • Can I customise the dress?

If you love a dress but want to make it your own, ask what customisations are possible – from changing straps or adding sleeves to adjusting details or adding accessories.

Most importantly, ask anything you’re unsure about. There are no silly questions when it comes to choosing your wedding dress!

What undergarments should I wear to a wedding dress fitting?

The best underwear for a bridal appointment is pale, ideally white or flesh coloured. Don’t say we didn’t warn you if you can’t tell what the dress looks like because you’re distracted by your underwear if you turn up in leopard print pants!

Can I take photos and videos during a wedding dress appointment?

Absolutely! We’re more than happy for you to take photos and videos during your appointment and capture those special memories.

But when it comes to the wedding dress itself, we do have a little bit of advice…

Sometimes, it’s actually better not to have a photo of your wedding dress that you can look at over and over again in the months before your wedding.

Here is Sian’s experience of snapping photos of herself in the wedding dress.

“I had ordered my dress two years before my wedding date, so I spent the following 24 months staring at those pictures. By the time the day came around for me to finally go back to the boutique to try my dress, that feeling of elation had significantly diminished.”

 – Sian Leyshon-Fleming, The wedding dress survival guide.

While it’s not uncommon for boutiques to have a strict no photography policy, at Tilly’s we don’t have that. Snap away, capture the moment, take the photos with your friends and family, we want you to enjoy the experience. We’d just encourage you to be mindful when it comes to photographing the dress.

A poorly lit photo, an unflattering angle or simply seeing the dress frozen in a photograph can sometimes create unnecessary stress and self-doubt. You can find yourself staring at the photo, picking everything apart. We’ve all done it with an Instagram photo, taken a picture we loved in the moment, stared at it for hours and suddenly decided we absolutely couldn’t possibly post it!Wedding dresses can be exactly the same. Your dress is meant to be a magical moment. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is let yourself experience that moment without analysing it through a camera lens.

How do I handle conflicting opinions from guests at a bridal appointment?

Too many cooks can definitely make wedding dress shopping difficult, and, to put it bluntly, too many guests can mean too many opinions! We’ve never found that having 13 different opinions at a bridal appointment is particularly helpful… and not confusing!

Your guests usually mean well. They might pick wedding dresses they think you should try or tell you which ones they like best, but often they’re choosing based on their own taste, rather than what they think will make you look and feel amazing.

Our best advice is keep your guest list small. Only bring the people you really trust to support you and help you make a decision that feels right for you. Don’t feel guilty about leaving people out. If you need an excuse, tell them you want your dress to be a surprise or blame your boutique as we only allow a certain number of guests. Whatever it takes to protect your peace.

Ultimately, the only opinion that really matters is yours. The best way to handle conflicting opinions is trust your instincts and focus on how you feel in the dress, rather than how everyone else thinks you look. At Tilly’s, our stylists are there to help you block out the noise, listen to your instincts and feel empowered to say yes to the dress that feels right for you.
